The Lords Prayer

Mathew 6: ~ 8... your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.  9In this manner, therefore, pray:
      Our Father in heaven,
      Hallowed be Your name.

10Your kingdom come.
      Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

11Give us this day our daily bread.

12And forgive us our debts,
      As we forgive our debtors.

13And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
      For Yours is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever.
      Amen.
It seems to me today that many of us have been misinterpreting this prayer since we first prayed it. It is a petition, of course, to God, but it isn't a petition for our needs, but for His will.
Jesus has pointed out that the Father already knows the things we have need of - we don't need to remind Him.
This is not meant to be a prayer for our benefit, but a prayer in which we state our agreement with the will of God.
We ask for our daily bread - the word of God - not solely for our benefit, but in order that we might learn to be better citizens of the kingdom of God.
We ask forgiveness of our debts and attest to our own forgiveness to facilitate brotherhood, oneness.
We ask for safety from temptation and the evil one to keep our aim toward God so that we ourselves might be worthy to enter the kingdom, not for ourselves, but in order that we might in some way help accomplish God's plan, that His kingdom shall come, and that His will be done here on earth as in heaven.
Father, grant us understanding, love and mercy, and the power of Your Spirit over the evil one, so that we might do your will...
Yes, in this prayer we ask for our daily bread, for forgiveness and protection from the evil one, but our true petition is that His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
